Background:

The SAEAS Abaraka Awards are underwritten by collectors Aissatou Sidime-Blanton and Stewart Blanton in collaboration with the San Antonio Ethnic Art Society. The Abaraka Awards will be given to African-American Women in the Visual Arts as a one-time grant equal up to $3,000 to support the completion of an arts-related project in the calendar year in which the funds are committed. The grant is given bi-annually and cannot be repeated.

 Purpose:

To support artistic projects that contribute to the continuance of the career of female artists and arts professionals.
To promote art interests among female youth under the age of 21.

Who is Eligible:

  -African American women who are US citizens

  -For Artists: A working artist with at least five years of experience (with 3 projects completed),  and who has not had artwork shown in a solo museum exhibit.

  -For Arts Professionals: Who work in arts field (arts education, curating, historian, conservation).  Application Deadline: June 5, 2017.
